Worship Commission

Worship is at the heart of the Bergvliet Methodist community. The role of the Worship Commission is to facilitate and develop worship at BMC into one that is fully participative in style. This involves ensuring that the various functions performed by different people (such as door stewards, vestry stewards, communion stewards, musicians and others) at our worship services are done efficiently and in a way that enables our people to worship the Lord as he ought to be worshipped. This means that sometimes the functions of different role players have to be reconsidered and revised, which in turn necessitates that the revised roles and duties should be explained and, if necessary, training and guidance given to those performing the duties.

We are envisaging the introduction of readers at some of our services, i.e. using some of our members (volunteers) to read the scripture lessons set for those services, and to empower these people, training and guidance will be offered to them. Also, in the not too distant future, All Age Worship will be introduced at some of our services, so that our worship will be inclusive of people of all ages and enable us to have worship times in which we can build a sense of togetherness of all people in the BMC community.

At the same time, we understand that worship is a very personal act. Account has to be taken of the different musical tastes and preferences in forms of worship. The Worship Commission has therefore to work towards ensuring that we provide worship services that are meaningful for as many of our people as possible.
